Improving a room does not always begin with buying something. It can begin with moving a lamp, lowering a picture or removing the object that makes every surface feel busy.

Try these in order

  1. Turn off the overhead light after dinner.
  2. Pull the rug far enough under the furniture to connect it.
  3. Lower art that feels detached from what sits below it.
  4. Move one piece away from the wall.
  5. Clear a single surface completely, then add back only what helps.
  6. Repeat one material on the opposite side of the room.
  7. Hide the cable you notice every day.
  8. Replace a cool bulb in the room where you relax.
  9. Move the tallest object out of the room’s busiest corner.
  10. Leave the room alone for a week before deciding what it still needs.

Small changes are useful because they reveal what the actual problem was. If moving the lamp fixes the corner, you did not need a new chair there after all.
